Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Tuesday, 2 August 2016

Windows 10 Anniversary Update (Version 1607), the next chapter in Windows 10, is scheduled to arrive on August 2, 2016. As noted by Dona Sarkar (Windows engineer and head of Windows Insider Program), not all devices will receive this major upgrade on this date and this update will be rolling out in waves. Major changes in this update include improved Edge, Cortana, Start Menu, Action Center and other apps, Settings app improvements, Edge extensions, Windows Ink, dark theme, and Windows Subsystem for Linux.

For screen reader users: any screen reader that declares support for Windows 10 are compatible, although some screen readers will require latest updates to function well with this update. The following versions are supported:

  • Narrator: built into Windows.
  • JAWS for Windows: 16.0.4350 or later (JAWS 17 or later recommended).
  • Window-Eyes: 9.3 or later (9.5 or later recommended).
  • Nonvisual Desktop Access: 2015.3 or later (2016.3 or later recommended).
