Display settings keeps coming up on startup of windows

Mr. Ed

Hi Everyone,

Every morning when I turn my computer on the settings for the display is on my screen. This display dialog box that come up is Windows key + I then ease of access and then display. This is the settings display that keeps coming up when I start my computer in the morning. It never comes up when I do a restart. I cannot find anywhere to turn this off. Anyone have any ideas as to why this settings dialog comes up?

Mr. Ed

Try this:

Open Control Panel

Go to Ease of Access Centre

After you press enter to open the category you should hear “Always scan this section” and I assume in your case this might be checked. Uncheck it and see if that fixes the issue.

After  you uncheck it, just close Control Panel with Alt + F4, there is no OK button to press or anything like that.

This is also strongly suggestive that you still have Fast Startup enabled, as the behavior on Restart differs from firing up from a prior shut down.  Were I you, I would disable it:

Control Panel, Power Options, Choose what the Power Button Does Link, Change settings that are currently unavailable link, uncheck Turn on Fast Startup (Recommended) checkbox, Save Changes button then OK your way out.

Hi Sieghard,

I went and followed your directions. The box was not checked. Thanks for the info. Any other ideas?

Hi Brian,

Not running fast startup. Any other ideas why this just started happening?

Mr. Ed,

Your guess is as good as mine as to possible underlying causes.  The next thing I'd suggest is reading through the following and doing what's mentioned to see if that fixes the issue.   If not, then there are additional options that require a bit more effort.

Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10

I have the same issue. I ran the checker and it worked for a little while. I have to keep uninstalling my usb display and replugging it in or I just ignor it. Might be a bug with windows10. Cheers Heather

Why not call Microsoft Accessibility and ask them if there is a solution.

Ed, I know you have an iPhone so you can use Be My Eyes to contact Microsoft Accessibility, if you can 100% of the time reproduce this after turning on your system I would turn it off, then call Microsoft Accessibility using Be My Eyes and explain what is happening. Then turn on your system and let the watch, then they can log into your system after it has booted up and you signed in and see if they can fix it.

Hi Sieghard,

Yes, I was thinking of doing that. This morning it came up again. I opened my other computer and looked at the same setting. I found one thing that was different so I made a change on my computer with the issue. So we will see if that fix it. If not I will probably called MS in the future.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Mr. Ed,

Did this by any chance start happening after you upgraded Jaws, Zoom text or Fusion?  After the last time I upgraded Fusion I had some odd start up behavior I can’t remember now.  It wasn’t this though.  I was able to fix my problem with help from this list.  If this behavior has occurred after an upgrade, I’d give tech support a call to see if anyone else has reported a similar problem.

Good luck,
