list view

Sugar

Hi all

Sorry if this the wrong place to ask…

I need to know how to change my list view? I think that is what it is.

In one of my music folders, I want the files to be listed going up and down

Currently they are placed side to side

How can I change this?

Thanks

Sugar

If you mean in File Explorer, see my tutorial:   I presume you will want either Details view (more likely, if you want to know anything about the file/folder beyond its name) or List View.

Thanks Kevin.  I somehow missed the "music folder" part, and this is a much easier way to change for a single folder.  It must be a screen reader command, too, as when I try it sans screen reader it does nothing.   In File Explorer you can use ALT+V,L, which will throw you into the layout control, then arrow or tab around until you find Details as well.

I use details view everywhere.   But the details shown in details for music differs from what gets shown elsewhere.

You're correct.  It's unusual in that nothing shows visually, as is more common when dealing with anything in the ribbon via other commands, until you've completed the whole 3-key press, then, presto-chango, the view changes.   Since there are 8 preset views, I presume CTRL+SHIFT+ one through eight will get you cycling through them all.  CTRL+SHIFT+6 is for details view while CTRL+SHIFT+5 is for list view.

And in list view, if you have more than fits in the window as currently sized, it will create columns.   Details view is strictly vertical, as the details themselves take up the space so you can't do a column wrap.

Hmm. I have no clue if control shift 1 to 8 will get through all 8 views, I have not tried it as of yet. Lol! I actually prefer detailed view as i can get the size of most everything. I'm a bit odd, but that's what i"ve ben used to for almost 20 years.

Take care and happy Thursday

Hi Sugar,

To change the List view : ALT + V , L
To change how to Sort the items by : ALT + V + 0
To change how to Group by : ALT + V + G

You can use these three to view and also arrange how you want the files to be in particular folder.

Hope this helps

Hi Sugar,

Try the following:
1. While in your Music folder make sure nothing is selected, now open the context menu with the applications key or shift + F10.
2. Press enter on the, View submenu, downarrow to, List, and press enter.
3. Again with nothing selected open the context menu, downarrow to, Sort By, press enter and you want these 2 items checked, Name & Ascending.
4. With nothing selected open the context menu, go to, Group by, press enter, and make sure, None, is checked.  If, None, doesn't show this means it's already selected, so press escapt to close.

Here's a  list of the shortcut keys for changing the type of view:
CTRL + SHIFT + 1 Extra Large icons,
CTRL + SHIFT + 2 Large Icons,
CTRL + SHIFT + 3 Medium Icons,
CTRL + SHIFT + 4 Small Icons,
CTRL + SHIFT + 5 List view,
CTRL + SHIFT + 6 Details view,
CTRL + SHIFT + 7 Tiles view,
CTRL + SHIFT + 8 Content view.
Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!
