Announcing Windows 10 May 2020 Update: we are in Version 2004 era #branchprogression #WinTen2004

Hello Win10 forum family,

On behalf of Windows Insiders and Win10 forum leadership team, I would like to welcome everyone to Version 2004 era. The upcoming feature update (now officially known as May 2020 Update) brings both outward and inward changes, including ability to use cloud-based reset functionality, GPU temperature in Task Manager, significantly revised Cortana experience, Windows Subsystem for Linux generation 2, improved Narrator among others.

With Version 2004 (May 2020 Update/build 19041) released to release preview Insiders, the Win10 forum cluster (including Insiders subgroup) has entered Version 2004 era (the era starts at midnight UTC on April 17, 2020, or 5 PM Pacific on April 16, 2020). This means:

  • Discussion of Version 2004 features is now fully allowed.
  • Instructions will be based on a mixture of Version 1909 and 2004 features, with priority given to 2004.
  • A new hashtag, #WinTen2004, is now active.
  • Cumulative updates for Version 2004 will now appear on this forum cluster.
  • Last regular cumulative update notice for Version 1909 (November 2019 Update) will be sent around 60 days after public release of Version 2004, so until July 14, 2020 at the earliest.

Screen reader compatibility: any screen reader supporting Version 1903 (May 2019 Update) or later should work, although newer releases are preferred. For reference:

  • Narrator: yes
  • JAWS: 2018 or later
  • NVDA: 2019.3 or later
  • Any screen reader supporting at least May 2019 Update.
  • For best experience, a screen reader release that supports Edge 79 or later is recommended.

And with that, let Version 2004 era commence!

Cheers,

Joseph
