Windows 11 October 2021 cumulative update: KB5006674/22000.258 #KBAlert

Hi all,

Note: although Windows 10 and 11 share certain system components, cumulative updates for each operating system may address different issues. Therefore, unless warranted, separate cumulative update posts will be made for each Windows release (Windows 10 and 11). Also, the sixty day rule still applies for Windows 11 cumulative update announcements on this forum – about 60 days after the release of the next Windows 11 update, cumulative update posts for build 22000 will cease, with the final announcement to be made once build 22000 exits consumer support as was the case with Windows 10 cumulative updates. Using this timeline, the last regular cumulative update announcement for Windows 11 Version 21H2 (build 22000) will be sent in late 2022 (provided that the next feature update to Windows 11 is released around this time next year), with the final consumer cumulative update scheduled for October 10, 2023 (business support will end in October 2024). Lastly, cumulative update announcements will include applicable Windows release in the subject line unless the same set of changes was introduce for both Windows 10 and 11 on the same day.

KB5006674 (build 22000.258) for Windows 11 is now available. This thread will be updated once the release notes is published.

Cheers,

Jsoeph

Hi,

The rest of the release notes:

Update link: October 12, 2021—KB5006674 (OS Build 22000.258) (microsoft.com)

Changelog:

Updates security for your Windows operating system.

Details:

Addresses known compatibility issues between some Intel “Killer” and “SmartByte” networking software and Windows 11 (original release). Devices with the affected software might drop User Datagram Protocol (UDP) packets under certain conditions. This creates performance and other issues for protocols based on UDP. For example, some websites might load slower than others on the affected devices, which might cause videos to stream slower in certain resolutions. VPN solutions based on UDP might also be slower.

Cheers,

Joseph
